Project 52: Week Three (or reasons why Wilson is the best dog in the world)

Is it wrong that for the second week in a row I couldn’t pick just one photo?  Probably.  It’s a trend I promise not to continue.  However, the subject matter covered here today was worthy of at least a couple of (hundred) shots.  Feel free to call any photo in the series the “photo of the week” I’m fine with whatever.

Anyway, what you are about to see may induce the following emotions: jealousy, excitement, happiness, joy, delight in this world and all it has to offer, euphoria, love, hope, envy, curiosity, awe, “aww”, and possibly high levels of excitement.  Because of this I do not recommend that pregnant women, the elderly, or anyone with hypertension or any kind of medical condition continue viewing this blog post.  However, if you chose to, I take no responsibility for the emotions and the physiological affect they may have on you.

Below you will find several photos of our households favorite canine resident, who also happens to be the only canine resident, but also the prince of the castle- or couch.

I’d like to say a few words about the famous Wilson (the Whoodle) Baldwin.  Here they are:

Wilson (Mister Wilson, Wilsy, Wilsy guy, Mister guy, Willy)  is seriously the best dog in the whole world and by “best” I mean “best ever for all of eternity”.  For the sake of brevity, I will just offer one bit of evidence for your consideration.  The entire time I did this photo shoot, he sat completely still because I told him to “stay” and yet wagged his tail the whole time. I mean, how cute is that?

So without further ado, we’ll let week three photos speak for themselves.

Have a great week and even though your dog isn’t the best dog in the whole world- give him a hug from Wilson!

I’m pretty excited to be participating in a photography project called “Project 52.”  Jodi Friedman of MCP Actions is encouraging photographers to learn and grow by taking one intentional photograph every week.  She’s suggesting themes for each week and while I may not use them, I’m still excited to take a photograph every week.  I love photography, but it’s like the contractor whose house never gets finished… I end up capturing everyone elses moments and don’t capture my own.  Hopefully, this will serve as a bit of a digital diary for me and at the end of the year, I’ll be able to remember what I did in 2011!

If you want to join in the project- it’s not too late!  Start now! Here’s more info: http://www.mcpactions.com/blog/2011/01/05/mcp-project-52-one-photo-a-week-join-in-anytime/

my favorite things: homemade bread!

Oh, how I love homemade bread!  We decided a while back on some “let’s get another kitchen appliance and add some clutter”/ health-kick to start milling our own flour and baking our own bread.  It’s been a lot of trial and error, but I think after all this time, we* have it down.  *Please note “we” is used here to mean Andy*

Homemade bread with fresh milled flour is very good for you.  I don’t know a lot about the details, but I know that the flour and bread you buy in the store is garbage and your body can’t actually digest it.  So when you make your own bread you are getting actual nutrients.  Plus you can add fun stuff to it like raisins, flax, honey, oats and the list goes on.  In addition, you have the ability to make all your friends salivate when you post on your Facebook that your husband made you homemade bread.

Anyway, that is just what we did this week- he made homemade bread and I made everyone jealous by posting it on my facebook.

This recipe is topped with warm honey when it comes out of the oven!

It's a bit sticky, but oh-my-goodness- delicious!

I love how it looks like real food:)

Did you think we would eat it without butter?

Another great thing about making bread is giving fresh bread to people as gifts.  This may sound silly, but we love to give people a loaf of homemade bread and they love receiving it.  I mean, it’s not like that is what I will get you for your birthday or anything.

Anyway, just another thing I love about this life- homemade bread!

Project 52: Week Two

I’m a little behind on this, but only by two days which means I can easily catch up this week.  Anyway, this weeks photo comes from the Western Stock Show!  What a fun time we had with our friends!  It was truly an enlightening cultural experience….. Our favorite event (which i did not get a good photo of) was the dog pulling contest.  This is where dogs large and small see how much weight they can pull.  Honestly, I never thought anything would be so exciting.

Without further ado- this weeks Photo of the Week (and a few more of the Western Stock Show for good measure)

Good measure:

Loved the shots, especially the one with the pig and bacon on the side of the cart.

Winners! the 2010 (photographic) year in review

Well, if you took one look at the comments you know the funniest, messiest picture is the winner.  I guess that’s life.  You show up in your Sunday best and the wind blows and the rain falls and all you can do is laugh and celebrate that God gave you another day with the ones you love.

So the first winner of a complete free photo shoot by yours truly is “windy day greg.”  Love this family and I’m excited to capture them again.  As promised they’ll bring more laughs in 2011.  If this years shoot is anything like last years, they will probably pick the day in June when it snows 15 inches. And we’ll do the shoot anyways.  By the way, of 55 votes, this hilarious family received 38 votes.  Way to go, friends and thanks for spreading the word!

The *second winner of a free photo shoot in 2011 is….drum roll….#24 Dana Brubaker.

As a special prize, I’d like to offer everyone who voted $25 off if you book a shoot in 2011.  The “Love” package includes the following:  an on location shoot for family, senior, engagement or maternity, CD of all edited images with printing rights (20-40), and a $10 print credit ($175 for extended family).  Your price will be $125 instead of $150.  Thanks for voting!  Email or call to claim your prize!

*The highly scientific method I used to select the winner of the second shoot was to ask my husband and his friend decide amongst themselves who would pick the number.  They used a random number generator to decide which of them would get to pick.  Erik won and selected #24.   He never saw these comments, so he had no knowledge of who commented.  Or when.  The number 1 comment is the first one and the last comment is 55.*

All prizes expire December 31, 2011.

THANK YOU for such a great gift/prize, Celina! We love you and are tickled with our photos! Can’t wait to do it again this year! Hugs from all the Birgy 6-pack :)

my favorite things: Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy

I kind of wish I could live inside these bottles.  This stuff smells so amazing!

My favorite scent is Eucalyptus Spearmint.  It’s not cheap, but trust me I feel strongly this will change your life. I first found this in a yoga class I took.  The instructor would have us lay down at the end of class and close our eyes and she would come around with her soothing voice and quiet steps and rub her hands together over your head so you knew she was there with her soothing scents and crazy abs and she would gently massage your neck or your arms or something else that made you feel like a million dollars and smell like heaven all day.  Anyway, I always thought it was just her magic yoga dust and I never knew what it was until I went to my friends Kristin’s house and she had the soap.  Of course, I immediately ran out and got us some.  I took the cheap way out with the soap, because it’s pretty expensive, so I put 1/2 in the soap dispenser and added 1/2 target soap. (It’s ok to save money even on things you love.)  Still smells great and makes me feel like I live in a spa.  Or with the calm-voiced, crazy-abs yoga teacher.

The bottle says this, ” Think clearly.  Eucalyptus essential oil clears the mind to improve concentration.  Spearmint essential oil is uplifting and helps the mind to focus.”  What it doesn’t say is this, ” You may come out of the bathroom feeling like a superstar.  The essential oils in this bath salt may make you feel like you will live through this migraine/backache/neck pain and even come out a better human.”

Seriously, love the bath salt.  Smells so good and makes the bathroom smell good for most of the day.

And I love this image.  So sharp. So clean. Thanks to Photoshop actions!

Go buy this stuff.  But wait for Bath and Body Works sales.  They have them all the time!

Relax. Unwind. Enjoy and tell them I sent you!
